excerpt:
Susan Musgrave is an award-winning poet, novelist and writer of children's books who lives in British Columbia. More Blueberries is a brightly illustrated, sturdy little board book featuring that most luscious and irresistible of all summer fruits, the blueberry. More Blueberries harkens back to Blueberries for Sal, Robert McClosky's well loved picture book from the last century that also celebrated blueberry season. Musgrave presents every possible blueberry treat in rhyming couplets, including the inevitable:
Even cats, crows, frogs and bears get into the act, until blueberry bedtime comes along and the blueberries are gone, with a blueberry yawn. Esperença Melo's bold and beautiful acrylics on gessoed paper are a perfect match for Musgrave's text as she depicts the blueberry stained twins eating, drinking and playing their way through blueberry concoctions of all sorts. More Blueberries has great visual and tactile appeal and should prove a success with small listeners (as well as being hardy enough to resist damage from little hands and teeth!) Highly Recommended. Valerie Nielsen, a retired teacher-librarian, lives in Winnipeg, MB.
