She raced toward the pen. Feathers were everywhere, no longer piled up in a mountain in the center. And the egg itself was gone! But a second later she saw it – in a far corner, against the wall, half covered in fluff. It must have wiggled and jiggled out of the nest and tumbled all the way over there… Clover picked up a smaller piece of the shell. It was gooey on the inside, coated with a slime that looked like drool. The egg had hatched. But where was the animal?

The Enchanted Egg is the second installment in the “Magical Animal Adoption Agency” series. The enchanted egg was first brought to the reader’s attention at the end of Clover’s Luck, the first book in the series, when Mr. Jams returns from a long journey having rescued the egg from under a drawbridge where a family of Trolls lived. While Mr. Jams was gone to retrieve the egg, the main character, a young lady named Clover, was tasked with running the adoption agency despite having very little experience. In The Enchanted Egg, Clover is once again placed in charge of the agency while Mr. Jams journeys to find a magical animal expert who is the chief editor of the Journal of the Unusual Eggs. Clover hopes that the egg will not hatch before he returns as nobody knows what animal lies within the enchanted egg.

     Clover loves her job at the Magical Animal Adoption Agency, and readers will enjoy the journey with her. In this installment of the series, readers get to meet friendly giants looking for a guard animal for their golden egg laying goose. A unicorn suffers from dripping glittery snot due to allergies, and readers meet Monsieur Puff, a cupcake baking ghost. Kallie George has created a story where readers are truly pulling for the protagonist. This second book in the series seemed to have fewer obstacles for Clover to overcome which made for a truly enjoyable read. Once again, both of my daughters, aged 7 and 11, enjoyed this book. Come along on the journey to learn which animal emerges from the enchanted egg.
