Miss Moon takes some time to share her knowledge about the nurturing of healthy dogs and people after having gained experience and skills while working as a governess to 67 dogs. Miss Moon offers 20 important lessons, each presented on a two page spread in the book. The left side of the page offers the lesson while the right hand side offers a lovely painting illustrating the lesson at hand. Many of the lessons are based on common sense while a few are reserved for the whimsy that is necessary for a well-balanced life. The charming artwork is painted in oil on canvas in a post-impressionist style. Each painting includes wonderful detail work that can be explored with children. For example, Lesson 12, which advises to “make the most of any weather”, shows the dogs sledding with Miss Moon and wearing colourful winter caps, scarves and earmuffs. This light-hearted book is absolutely delightful and ideal for spurring conversations with young children about little lessons in life as well as the enjoyment that comes with balance. Miss Moon: Wise Words from a Dog Governess was originally published in French under the title Mademoiselle Moon, gouvernante de chien. Highly Recommended.
