excerpt:
Kamik Joins the Pack is a story about a young boy named Jake who lives in Northern Canada and who has a puppy he desperately wants to train to become a leader of his own dogsled team. To learn more about what you need to do to train the dogs, take care of them, and be able to maintain the equipment required to participate in the sport, Jake takes his dog to see his uncle who already has an established team.
The illustrations in Kamik Joins the Pack are really beautifully drawn and use a primarily white and blue background to represent the snowy landscape found in Northern Canada. The subjects of the illustrations are drawn in clean bright colours that stand out in contrast to the backgrounds. The text, however, is a grey colour and a little bit light. The font is a hand written style which might be difficult to follow for a young child first learning to read. Highly Recommended.
