Baby's First Treasury is a compilation of seven of Barbara Reid's board or picture books that were originally published between 2002 and 2013, with all of them previously being most positively reviewed in CM. The book is aptly named as its contents contain some of the "jewels" from Reid's impressive body of work. Physically, the book's dimensions are much larger than the original works, and its overall weight suggests it might work better as a "lapbook" controlled by a parent. Older toddlers, however, will be able to turn the pages on their own. The contents of Baby's First Treasury, along with its reasonable cost, mark it as a "must" baby gift for new parents. Even if libraries serving the young have copies of the individual titles contained within Baby's First Treasury, they should still order a copy of the collection as its larger illustrations and text will facilitate toddler read-aloud times. One can only hope that there is a second treasury to come. Highly Recommended. Dave Jenkinson, CM's editor, lives in Winnipeg, MB.
