excerpt:
Mittens to Share, with simple prose, tells the story of a young girl who plays in the snow and then tragically loses one of her mittens. The story opens with an invitation to the vastness of a snowy world: Look up (p. 2); and the reader's attention is brought to a tiny bird on a telephone wire. Look down (p. 3) it next says, and the reader has the advantage of looking at the child from the bird's view. A snow adventure transpires, and a mitten is lost. The girl returns to her home to search for new mittens that she can use in the wondrous outdoors. Once back outside, she discovers a delightful surprise.
Recommended. Nikita Griffioen is completing her high school English teacher certification, and she hopes to write and illustrate books of her own.
