excerpt:
Not all spiders build webs, but they all spin at least one kind of silk. Some make up to six kinds! They use the sild to build homes, escape from danger, protect their eggs, or trap prey. This attractive introduction to spider life is another volume in the "Crabapples" series. Like the other books in the series, two page spreads are devoted to one topic about the subject. For example, the double page spread on the spider's body clearly labels each part using excellent colour photographs and captions. In the next section on what spiders eat, spiders are described as carnivores who stun their prey with venom. The large colour photo dramatically shows a spider on the attack. But what kind of a spider is it? What is it attacking? Many of the photos are not captioned, and there is no mention or explanation in the text, a practice which makes the title very uneven.
