Making Candles is in the "Kids Can Do It" Series, an affordable series
from Kids Can which emphasizes creative and appealing crafts for families.
This is a welcome new title on candle making for children as our library's only other titles were dated - Feder's Candlemaking Design Book (Watts, 1974) and Wels' Here is Your Hobby, Candlemaking (Putnam, 1977). Sadler's instructions are presented in a step-by-step fashion and are supported by attractive colour photos and drawings. First Sadler provides good safety tips for working with hot wax. Then a supply list is given for each of the projects which include a beautiful chunky candle which looks like stained glass, rolled beeswax candles with coloured contrasting shaped decorations, dipped candles, and wonderful egg candles made from a mold of a real egg shell! Kids will love the frosted cupcake candles and the glass lantern candles. Families and art educators will also find plenty of great ideas for recycling common household materials to create new treasures. Highly recommended.
