Toronto author Debora Pearson has written a book that is sure to please young children,
especially those little boys who can't get enough about motor vehicles. The text is simple but very
descriptive: "Trash trucks carry mushy, messy, smelly trash. Dump it, crush it, crash and smash
it." The illustrations, rendered in watercolors, are bright and interesting. This book provides many
opportunities to discuss with children not only the trucks, themselves, but also concepts of size
and space, the whys and wherefores of people's different jobs, how things are moved from place
to place to help us, for example, get our gasoline or ice cream. This book seems destined to be a
winner.
Debora Pearson is the former editor of OWL Magazine and the author of several children's
books. 52 Days by Camel: My Sahara Adventure, co-authored by Lawrie Raskin, has been
nominated for several awards.
Chum McLeod graduated from the Ontario College of Art in 1989. Since then, she has been busy
as an illustrator of textbooks, science books, and picture books. Her strong, innovative
illustrations are receiving much attention, and her work is sought out by publishers.
Highly Recommended.
