excerpt:

Who has a waggy yellow tail and a sticky licky tongue?

Who has a wrinkly green body and a lot of teeth?

image Very young children will have fun making predictions based on the text's question and the portion of an animal which they can see on each of the eight double page spreads. Presenting just part of a head and a tail, Leslie covers the rest of the animal's body with the text which is rendered in large lower case letters in a variety of colours. The sound the "unknown" animal makes is provided as a further clue to its identity. The title's "flappy" has a double meaning because it refers firstly to the fact that one of the book's creatures is a bird but more importantly to the real "flap," a vertical half page which is found between each double page spread. When folded back, the flap completes the animal's body and confirms or corrects the child's prediction. The name of the animal is also provided at this point. The animals are appropriately illustrated in a simple, large cartoon style and in bright colours on solid colour bold backgrounds. Amusing both visually and in content.

Highly Recommended.
