excerpt: So she picked up that cookieChristopher makes play cookies and delights in tricking his parents into tasting them. But Christopher falls for his teacher's trick. After Christopher learns his lesson, the class makes real cookies. Most children can relate to the desire to trick people. Christopher's trickery is sure to result in a round of giggles. The legions of Munsch fans won't be disappointed by his latest silly tale. As usual, Munsch uses exaggeration and repetition to move the plot along to a speedy resolution. Martchenko's easily identifiable watercolour illustrations are bright, colourful and full of humorous detail and have become linked with Munsch books in readers' minds. The mere mention of reading a Munsch book makes most children sit in rapt attention. Luckily this story is short enough for preschool storytimes and is sure to be a hit. A recipe for play clay is included. Recommended. Catherine Hoyt is the Curator of the Eileen Wallace Children's Literature Collection at the University of New Brunswick.
