I shout:Simon's Disguise is the twelfth book in Gilles Tibo's award-winning series about the adventures of a playful little boy named Simon. In this picture-storybook, Simon tries out various disguises. First, the disguises are of his own childlike invention and make use of pots and brooms. Later, on the advice of a clown, he changes to makeup. It is then that Tibo's genius as an illustrator takes over as Simon disguises himself as a tree trunk and a rock. In both cases, Simon becomes part of the landscape in which he loves to play. For a little boy, the depth of these makeup disguises is too great, and he returns to his own world with a costume party for friends, both children and animal. Tibo's imaginative illustrations will easily appeal to young and old alike. They carry the text throughout the story and lend themselves to much discussion about disguise and costumes. This book, like others in the series, is also available in French. It is a wonderful choice for young children. Highly Recommended. Gillian Martin Noonan is a teacher living in Old Perlican, NF.
