excerpt:

Katelyn's head jumped off the
pillow. Katelyn's hand jumped from the
blankets and hit the alarm clock.
And the alarm clock jumped off
the bedside table and fell with
a ringing and bounced with a buzzing
and Katelyn jumped half out of bed and
fell half on the floor, and her hands
looked for the ringing all over the dark,
and then the room rang quiet.
image Author Pete Marlowe's premise of a child who has a hard time getting out of bed is one to which both young and adult readers will be able to relate. Katelyn plans to get up extra early to make breakfast for her parents, but, when her alarm clock goes off the next morning, she has a difficult time getting out of bed. Katelyn follows the noise of the buzzer back to dream land and an adventure. Katelyn has just enough time to help the very worried king save his greatest treasure from the evil Grand Vizier before she wakes up to make tea for breakfast.

Illustrator Charles Bell's pictures are bold and colorful, but they have a smudged graphic look about them. Apparently Bell works mainly in the corporate sector, and this is his first picture book. Bell has done an average job with this book, but somehow knowing that the art work was rendered digitally turns me off a little. However, overall, this is a decent book with an adventure story that young readers will enjoy. One Arabian Morning would be a nice read aloud choice for older storytimes and classroom use.
