excerpt: Now search the forest to see where EasterDescribed as "A lift the flap search and find book," this is a lavish picture book which will come into its own as Easter approaches. There are 50 flaps to look under and 5 golden (yellow actually) Easter eggs to pull out and slide into slits in the Easter basket pictured on the last page. The five large double-spread pages of thick pasteboard are beautifully illustrated with spring and Easter themes, brightly coloured vegetation, small animals and insects. There is just one paragraph of text on each picture spread, an example being the excerpt above. Finding and removing the golden eggs is a one time activity, but the 50 flaps will provide entertainment for a longer period. Because the flaps and eggs are rather fragile and apt to be handled roughly in a classroom, adult supervision will be necessary to lengthen the book's life. It would make a cherished gift for a family of young children, but would not stand the hurly-burly of school or public library use for very long. Recommended with reservations. Joan Payzant is a former teacher-librarian in Dartmouth, NS.
