Entertainers reviews the lives of 12 Canadian television producers, directors and actors, each in some detail over six pages, and provides brief notes on 12 more. The individuals reviewed in depth include James Cameron, Neve Campbell, John Candy, Jim Carry, Michael J. Fox and Sarah Polley. The focus of the entries is on the personalities, although information is provided on their major accomplishments and events in their lives. Much of the information is presented in sectioned off boxes or lists, coloured and black and white pictures with captions, and sections with headings such as "Early years," "Developing skills" and "Accomplishments." As well, a table of contents, index, backgrounder boxes and a glossary provide access to the text. The book includes a glossary of some more difficult words and a list of suggested reading. The writing style is conversational to provide glimpses into each entertainer's life, rather than a more academic study of their accomplishments. The overall theme of the book, as noted in the introduction, is that the dedication and achievements of these entertainers will provide an inspiration to students. All these entertainers have websites where additional information is available, although the book does not make references to these. Good readers in grade 4 will be successful in finding information about entertainers, and the interest and level of detail will meet the needs of researchers at the grade 9 level. This book is recommended to complement courses requiring biographies of contemporary Canadians at the grade 5 to 9 level.
