This book is part of the "Sports in Action" series created by Bobbie Kalman. Other books in this series describe the martial arts, figure skating, horseback riding and golf. Like the other books (see CM Volume VII, No. 18), this book has a table of contents with clear chapter titles that follow the progression of the game, as well as a glossary and index at the end of the book. The information is presented in two page chapters that are precise and clearly written at age level. Tips are included, and safety is a emphasized. The chapters are clearly divided into sub-sections. Portions are highlighted in shaded boxes. Accurate drawings and photographs illustrate the moves and rules of the game. Children who are eager to learn how to play football will find this book very helpful and encouraging; however, Canadian children will be disappointed to find that Football in Action only discusses the American rules for football as the opening excerpt reveals. With this "national" reservation noted, the book is... Highly Recommended Harriet Zaidman is a teacher librarian in Winnipeg, MB.
