January 15th's Question:

In what year was the closest federal election, in terms of seats won by the first and second party? How many seats did these two parties win?

Answer:

The closest federal election in Canadian electoral history was in 1972. In this election the Liberals received 109 seats and the Progressive Conservatives107.

Although not required in the answer the rest of the House was made up of:

New Democratic Party - 31
Creditiste - 15
Independent - 2
