Machines and gadgets
The kitchen is full of things to help you do a job more easily.

Boys and girls are cooking up pancakes and muffins in Let's Look At Kitchen. Part of the "Let's Look At" series for preschoolers, Let's Look At Kitchen shows a variety of foods and gadgets under a variety of subheadings such as "Fruits and vegetables," "Let's cook!" and the all important "Cleaning up." The text is very basic, offering a simple explanation for each heading. A variety of clear, bright photographs on a white background are used to illustrate the book. While the pictures are all labelled, some of the terms are unfamiliar and may be used because of the book's British origins. Popsicles are called "orange ice lollies" and a spatula is called a "fish slice." One photograph, which looks very much like two zucchinis, reads "crisp courgettes," a term which eludes both my dictionary and me. While the images have the same bright and colourful characteristics as other books in the series, one shortcoming of the series is that the books are too similar visually to another. However, many children may enjoy finding objects in the kitchen book that they recognize from Let's Look At Patterns and Let's Look At Mix and Match.
