I Want to Be...: A Gutsy Girls’ ABC
I Want to Be...: A Gutsy Girls’ ABC
UFOLOGIST I study strange objects in the sky.
I Want to Be... will delight even the youngest readers with its colourful, playful artwork and quirky collection of unusual occupations. Specifically, this book is bound to captivate young girls as they gain a sense of empowerment while flipping through its pages. Each uppercase letter of the alphabet is printed in bold, block letters with the corresponding occupation written below in black uppercase letters. A simple definition of each occupation is given on every page. Since this is an alphabet book, I had expected that both uppercase and lowercase letters would be shown on each page; however, the book only includes uppercase. The alphabet letters are printed in vibrant colour and are easily found on each page.
The message I Want to Be... brings is a message of unlimited possibilities, not just for women and girls but also for people who experience physical disabilities. Specifically, some of the artwork shows girls using adaptive equipment as they work. Women and girls, regardless of age, ability, culture or race can become anything they aspire to become. The occupational possibilities include a quarry worker, house inspector, mountain climber or ice sculptor…and the list goes on to accompany all 26 letters of the alphabet.
