Fox and Squirrel Help Out
One day, something landed on Fox’s head.
“There is something on your head!”, said squirrel.
“What ?!” said Fox.
“What is on my head?!”
“Something loud,” said Squirrel.
“And squeaky. But mostly loud!”
That something referred to in the above excerpt turns out to be a baby bat. Fox is enchanted and concerned for the well-being of the little, soft creature perched on his head while squirrel seems somewhat jealous of all the attention the baby bat is receiving. But when the bat manages to plop onto squirrel, he, too, enjoys the feeling. This “squeaky” visitor tries to keep up with the busy duo and their activities. As they both nap, other bats appear, and their new cuddly friend joins his brethren. However, not long after, the story hints of another intruder that might be joining them.
This new installment in the “Fox and Squirrel” friendship series is full of gentle humour with an emphasis on sounds played out in large capitals that become part of the illustration of the story. The comical drawings are done in softly coloured pastels with many featuring double-page spreads.
