Brady Brady Game Time Collection
Brady loved winter. He loved winter because he loved hockey. Hockey was all he though about. He thought about it so much that everyone had to call him twice to get his attention. It drove his family crrrrazy!
"Brady, Brady! Is your bed made?"
"Brady, Brady! Hatrick wants to go out."
"Brady, Brady! You're spilling your milk!"
Pretty soon they just called him Brady Brady. It was easier that way.
For those young readers who have not previously met Brady Brady and may be wondering why he seemingly has two identical given names, the above excerpt, taken from an earlier book in the series, Brady Brady and the Great Rink, provides an explanation.
In Brady Brady Game Time Collection, Scholastic Canada has collected five more “Brady Brady” books, originally published between 2001 and 2010, into a single volume. This work joins two earlier compilations, Brady Brady All-Star Hockey Collection and Brady Brady Superstar Hockey Collection. Unlike the previous collections, this compilation finds Brady Brady engaged in sports beyond just hockey, with three of the titles finding Brady Brady playing football or baseball.
As all five of the books in Brady Brady Game Time Collection were previously positively reviewed in CM, my comments will be limited largely to the book’s physical aspects. As the Brady Brady books were originally published in a paperback format, this hardcover collection means that the book should enjoy a significantly longer shelf life. The book’s larger format, in terms of the pages’ height and width, makes Chuck Temple’s illustrations much more visible should the book be used with a read-to audience of several children. Additionally, the $16.99 price is less than half of what the five books would have cost had they been individually purchased as paperbacks.
With its child-friendly content, Brady Brady Game Time Collection would make an excellent home purchase, and it certainly belongs in school and public libraries.
