I Will Always Love You...No Matter What!
I Will Always Love You...No Matter What!
“What if I broke your car?”
“Well, I would feel astonished, astounded, and absolutely flabbergasted…. But I would still love you.”
“Hmmm….What if I broke your heart?”
“I don’t think you could sweetheart….only if you didn’t love me anymore.”
“I will always love you Grandma, no matter what!”
The full-colour, full-page illustrations in cartoon format depict a grandmother and granddaughter talking about their love for each other. Through a series of imaginary happenings, the grandmother declares her love despite any blunders the granddaughter could make. At the end of the story, the granddaughter also declares that she, too, will “always love you Grandma, no matter what!”
The story is a testament to the unconditional love between a grandparent and grandchild. Caregivers/teachers could use this book in several ways. It highlights an important aspect of the family dynamic and could be used in a discussion of what family means. The text is repetitive, each page depicting a different scenario with the child asking, “Will you still love me?” Teachers/caregivers could use this format as a model to create their own stories. The vocabulary could be examined and, in many cases, explained. Some of the words will be unfamiliar to youngsters, but learning about them and their meanings will give children many more words to express their own feelings. Some of these are:
disappointed and dismayed
vexed and perplexed
horrified and mortified
shocked and stunned
frustrated and exasperated
astonished, astounded and flabbergasted
The illustrations show these feelings in a visual way. Children and caregivers alike will enjoy I Will Always Love You...No Matter What!
