This Town is a Nightmare
This Town is a Nightmare
A howl rang through the night. It sounded vaguely like a wolf, enough to hopefully fool anyone who heard it, but Beacon knew it was Galen. He froze. There was only one reason Galen would be so obvious- if he were trying to warn him that someone was here.
Beacon pushed up the window, just as footsteps thundered down the hall. Panic flared through him. The window was small. He would have to contort his body to squeeze out. There wouldn’t be time. He made a split-second decision and dashed across the room into the closet. He pulled the door closed just as the bedroom door burst open.
In this sequel to This Town is Not All Right, Beacon and Everleigh and their friend Arthur are now living in New York City, supposedly having escaped Driftwood Harbor. But something still seems off, and the twins’ problems are only growing. Their dad has been acting strangely, and Beacon is convinced that someone or something is watching them. Soon the twins discover that they’re not just in a fight for their family but for the entire planet, and the only way to end it is to go back to the last place they want to be – Driftwood Harbor.
Picking up shortly after the events at the end of the previous book, the author puts the reader in the unique position of knowing (or suspecting) something that her characters don’t know. While Everleigh is back to her usual snarky self, their father is not himself. Readers who remember the big twist at the end of the first book will figure out the reason why and will be eager for Beacon and the others to figure it out.
Also new to the sequel is the character of Galen, a seemingly homeless boy whom the author reveals to be a defected alien. The twins find an unlikely ally in Galen who has his own reasons for wanting to join the fight against them. Galen’s dog also provides the group with an advantage in that he can spot aliens in human form.
Unlike the first book which spent a lot of time setting up the story and the characters, the second book ramps up the action and is a fast and exciting read. Krys also still manages to surprise the reader by creating fresh plot twists and an ending that hints at a third book in the series.
Overall This Town is a Nightmare this is a thrilling and entertaining sequel that will satisfy fans of the first book.
