I’m the Boss!
I’m the Boss!
“It’s not fair! You always say no!”
Elise Gravel’s I’m the Boss! features Lulu as she decides that, “Today, I’M the BOSS!” and she should get everything that she asks for. This fun story is about a young monster’s delightfully lofty requests being dashed by the grown-up in Lulu’s life. In just a few pages, this story manages to capture the energy and sentiments of a child demanding delivery of the impossible and the importance of connection and love. Lulu’s series of requests include a castle made of chocolate and a baby dinosaur, and everything must be “A big one! Right now!” Of course, the adult denies each of Lulu’s requests which ultimately results in Lulu’s frustrated shout, “It’s not FAIR! You always say NO!” However, one final request does get an affirmative response. “I’m SAD. I want a HUG.” Children will delight in the fun ideas and the colourful illustrations, and adults will enjoy the story’s relatability.
