Awesome Hockey Trivia for Kids
Awesome Hockey Trivia for Kids
Longest. Season. Ever.
The 2019-2020 NHL season began as usual on October 2, 2019. But on March 12, 2020, the season was suspended indefinitely due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The NHL wouldn’t resume play until August 1, 2020, with the last Stanley Cup Final game being held on September 28, nearly a full year after the season started.
Awesome Hockey Trivia for Kids is the latest in Eric Zweig’s popular series that includes Hockey Trivia for Kids, More Hockey Trivia for Kids, and, of course, the one that has a permanent residence on my kid’s nightstand, The Ultimate Book of Hockey Trivia for Kids. Following the same format as its predecessors, Zweig’s latest is an engaging compilation of stats, cartoons, fun facts, and a few interesting tidbits that will come as a surprise to even the most dedicated hockey fan.
While a table of contents would be nice, this book is short, and the layout is clear enough that readers could easily find what they are looking for just by flipping through. The headings on each page are prominent; as with previous titles in this series, some headings are repeated and some are not. For example, “By the Numbers” spreads feature straight statistics, “Trophy Tales” contain information about the Stanley Cup and other significant NHL awards, and “Mascot Mayhem” pages contain info about the various costumed mascots that support the teams.
Dickson’s illustrations are funny and uncomplicated, a perfect complement to almost every page. My personal favourite is Louie, the polar bear mascot for the St. Louis Blues, engaging in some excellent disco-dancing with one of the players!
Like the rest of the series, Awesome Hockey Trivia for Kids will be a hit with hockey fans and those looking for something short and snappy.
