It’s My Body!
It’s My Body!
No matter what body you have, how you feel inside it, and what you can do with it....your body is your BEST FRIEND!
It’s My Body! teaches children there are all kinds of bodies that come in different shapes, skin colors, and hair. Author and illustrator Elise Gravel notes your body is with you your whole life and needs to be treated with KINDNESS. It needs to be taken care of by eating good foods, staying active, and getting rest. Furthermore, you are in charge of your body and must respect that fact in other people as well.
The book provides a great opportunity for parents, caregivers, and teachers to have important conversations and to encourage children to accept their uniqueness as well as understand their body and its capabilities. Each page has something relevant to say, the writing straightforward, open and honest. It is also fun, helped along by creatures in all sorts of shapes, sizes, colors, and facial expressions. The illustrations, overall, are colorful, comical, and simple. The hearts in the inside cover made this reviewer think the book was written with great affection.
Select words are made to stand out - capitalized, with larger fonts and contrasting colors - further assisting in delivering the intended message. “RESPECT”, “HEALTHY and HAPPY” are just some of the words used to highlight the significance of taking “GOOD CARE” of your body.
Interestingly, at the very end, the author states “For everybody who has a body, recognizing It’s My Body! would be a great refresher and plenty of enjoyment for adults as well.
