Brady Brady and the Super Skater
Brady Brady and the Super Skater
As Brady helped Caroline pull the huge ball out of her bag, he noticed a clear case with a pair of eyeglasses in it.
“Hey, I didn’t know you wore glasses!” Brady said to Caroline.
“Uh…I don’t!” she said, snatching the case out of his hand. […]
Caroline quickly put her glasses back in the case and buried them deep in her bag. Brady could tell she was really embarrassed. He also realized why she always missed the net.
In Brady’s latest hockey adventure, he welcomes a new player to the team, Caroline. Caroline is a fast player on the ice, a “super skater”, but she misses all the shots she takes and fails to catch passes. Something is amiss! Because Caroline’s previous teammates had laughed at her for having to wear glasses, Brady breaks the ice by telling her no one on the Icehogs will make fun of her for wearing glasses. With new confidence in-hand, Caroline is able to pull off the winning play at the buzzer.
Brady Brady and the Super Skater doesn’t contain much tension, and the book ends abruptly, but it does adequately tackle the common embarrassment that kids feel when wearing glasses. The art serves the story well with colourful and large pictures that capture the action of hockey. This book is a sure shot for kids who are fans of hockey and can be a good tale for those who have trepidation about their new glasses.
