Greetings, Floof!
Greetings, Floof!
Oh dear, rain clouds are coming.
And Floof is afraid of getting wet!
Let’s help him. Take a deep breath and blow the clouds away.
Join scientist Dr. Greta Goodnote as she meets and observes Floof, a fluffy visitor from the planet Ploof. Dr. Goodnote invites the reader to greet Floof with a traditional Ploofian hello, observe his behaviour and interactions with the animals of Earth and help him make his way back home. Greetings, Floof! is an interactive scientific adventure. Children are encouraged to wave their arms in greeting, find hidden animals, turn pages, blow away rain clouds, shake the book to fluff Floof’s fur, brush away dirt, and push a button on Floof’s rocket ship to help it go. The accompanying illustrations are colourful and dynamic. I love the subtle detail of the DNA double-helix curl to the scientist’s hair.
Greetings, Floof! is a fun book that also provides young readers with an introduction to the scientific process. While children are interacting with the book, they will learn how scientists make observations to test hypotheses and draw conclusions from those observations. The reader joins Dr. Goodnote in making observations and problem solving to help the visiting Floof. The scientific process is well-integrated into the story and does not detract from the joy of the book or feel like an afterthought.
The interactive elements of the book are diverse and creative. Greetings, Floof! is sure to become a favourite.
