The Sniger and the Floose
The Sniger and the Floose
On a very Random Island
in the North Atlantic Sea,
some very Randoanimals
are hiding in the trees…
The Sniger and the Floose is an inventive picture book that boasts a Seussian rhyme scheme detailing a list of imagined animals and their various games and habits in the wild. The song-like prose moves steadily and keeps the reader entertained while emphasizing a respect and reverence for all the beauty of nature (real and imagined). The book ends by encouraging readers to remember and cherish “the wild and wondrous feeling” these creatures give them rather than trying to imprison, photograph or otherwise control them.
Ashley Fayth’s experience as a singer/songwriter serves her well in her rhyming couplet style prose that reads like music. Katie Brosnan’s illustrations echo the inventive spirit of the writing as she designs each imagined Randomanimal in playful watercolour detail.
Tessie Riggs, a librarian living in Toronto, Ontario, never leaves the house without a book.
