Sally's Snow Day
Sally's Snow Day
Sally is going outside.
But first she has to put on her coat and boots.
It takes practice to learn how to zip up a pup.
Join Sally the puppy as she goes to the park on a wintry day. First Sally must put on her coat and winter boots, and then she sniffs her way to the park for a snowy adventure. Sally meets lots of other dogs of all shapes, sizes, and colours, all wearing their own coats and snow boots. At the park, Sally plays and watches as people build snow dogs. At the end of the day, Sally curls up at home for a nap.
It is a joy to follow along on Sally’s adventures. The simple language and bright and cheerful illustrations are inviting to young children, and the book encourages interaction and conversation. Children can follow along with the book, counting Sally’s four boots as she puts them on, and they can think about what they need to wear to play in the snow. Sally serves as a stand in for a young child, and children can easily relate to her excitement at playing in a snowy park.
Sally’s Snow Day is the third book by Andrew Larson to feature the adventures of Sally the puppy, the first two being Sally’s Big Day (www.cmreviews.ca/node/3256) and Sally’s New Look. All of them end with Sally dreaming, and the books invite the reader to guess what she might be dreaming about. This is a charming feature that invites preschool readers to think about Sally’s experiences and speculate about what the subject matter of her dreams might be.
