Jurassic Jeff: Race to Warp Speed
Jurassic Jeff: Race to Warp Speed
Spike (a dinosaur): Jeff, what is a strong>warp drive and how do you get one?
Jeff (an alien): A warp drive is installed in a spaceship and allows it to travel at supersonic speeds, which we call “warping.” On my planet, you can usually pick up a warp drive at a wrecker or local spaceship dealer.
I won my first warp drive in an awesome game of marbles when I was eight.
I installed it on my scooter.
However, I was caught going one strong>light-year over the speed limit. The speed limit is strong>zero light-years in urban areas and I had to do some time.
My dad actually thought it was strong>funny.
Then my dad decided to teach me everything there is to know about warp drives. How to take them apart. How to strong>fix them.
Jeff’s Dad: Now remember, son, if you forget everything I teach you about warp drives…
… just remember this strong>one thing …
Spike: strong>Don’t eat bees – they make your poop buzz!
Jeff: strong>Spike! I said stop eating bees!
Spike: Sorry, Jeff, you were talking about the most important thing your dad ever taught you about warp drives?
Jeff: Yeah, I can’t remember what it was.
Whenever I try to remember it, something pops in and breaks the memory.
Oh well.
Jurassic Jeff: Racing to Warp Speed is the second installment of the “Jurassic Jeff” series. Jeff is a space invader alien whose spaceship crashed onto the planet Earth during the Jurassic period. Jeff befriends a few dinosaurs and other creatures as they go on some adventures together. In this second book, Jeff and his friends look for his warp drive. His warp drive was lost during his crash landing onto Earth as he smashed into a mountain. Unfortunately, they are not the only ones looking for the warp drive as the longisquama reptiles have orders from King Quazzy to find a warp drive as well. The two groups battle it out to see who will successfully get the warp drive.
Lepp’s Jurassic Jeff: Racing to Warp Speed is a humorous adventure story with a rare friendship between dinosaurs and a space alien. Together, this group has funny dialogues and candid interactions with each other that will keep readers laughing and entertained. The word bubbles usually have no more than one sentence, making this graphic novel appealing to emerging and reluctant readers. The font size is quite large which makes it straightforward to read. Since there are few words in this book, Lepp’s illustrations drive the plot action. There is an average of three panels per page, thereby allowing the graphics to be quite large showing more story details. The colour tones used in this graphic novel are very vibrant in depicting comically drawn dinosaurs and space aliens.
Overall, Jurassic Jeff: Race to Warp Speed is a funny and endearing adventure between friends.
