Even Superheroes Make Mistakes
Even Superheroes Make Mistakes
If they space out and nab the wrong guys without thought,
they could choose to let bandits succeed with their plot!
But ashamed superheroes who goofed up somehow…
first STOP and consider what’s best to do NOW.
Children love superheroes and likely never consider that superheroes might make mistakes. So when they start to read Even Superheroes Make Mistakes, they will be surprised to find that the book begins with superheroes failing. The rhyming text, together with the full-page cartoon illustrations, show a variety of mistakes, from everyday errors to silly blunders, that superheroes might make. These mistakes might include putting too much salt in a cake, catching the wrong guys, ruining a choir performance or waking up late. After each error, the superheroes have options to consider – what they could do and what, as superheroes, they should do.
Even Superheroes Make Mistakes is Shelly Becker’s second book about superheroes, following Even Superheroes Have Bad Days. Young readers will enjoy the antics of the eight superheroes: Magnifique, Screecher, Typhoon, Icky, Beastie, Zing, Thrash and Laserman. Illustrator Eda Kaban’s bold, cartoon-style artwork adds energy and humour to the rhyming text. These visuals play a key part in showing the mistakes and how the superheroes decide to handle them.
Even Superheroes Make Mistakes presents a variety of mistakes that anyone, even a superhero, can make. It shows that superheroes aren’t perfect, but, when they misstep and something doesn’t go right, they know how to act. They take responsibility and “get on with their day… saving the world in their most super way.” This 'fun-to-read' book will be popular with young audiences. It also provides the opportunity for conversations about making mistakes and finding responsible solutions.
