A Potato on a Bike
A Potato on a Bike
Have you ever seen a carrot taking a bath? No way!
Author and illustrator Elise Gravel definitely knows how to make little ones and adults giggle during story time! A Potato on a Bike is a repetitive, silly board book that will have toddlers excitedly joining in. Translated from the original text in French, each page presents a new absurd “Have you ever?” The repetition is ideal for emergent readers to engage in the book experience. Once the toddler is familiar with this book, they are likely to look forward to the last page for some silly tickling as the book reads, “Have you ever…seen someone tickling a baby? Yes, way!”
The digital artwork is adorable but also very simple and looks similar to how a small child would portray the text thereby making the book uniquely inviting. Because of the silliness of the text, the artwork matches perfectly and adds to the humor of the book. Other text features include speech bubbles where different characters, like the broccoli, poop, a tomato, a fly, a potato, a sausage and finally a baby, all vocalize. The text is written in black uppercase although a silly word on each page is emphasized with bright colour and a surrounding graphic.
Though A Potato on a Bike is recommended for ages 0-4, the book could easily be enjoyed by older children who enjoy rambunctious, interactive story time and a lot of laughter.
